Behind the Art Sale, What’s The Big Deal
The past few weeks I’ve been watching the The Big Deal with Steph McGovern and finding it better than I expected. I’m not big on reality shows with the “kicking off the island”.
But, this isn’t fully bothering me, as the premise is about art and taking seven teams of two (The Big Deal with Steph McGovern comes to BBC One Northern Ireland - Northern Ireland Screen) to learn about the art world beyond the artists. The host, Steph McGovern - Wikipedia, whose father was a professional artist and she grew up around artist and the art market. Seeing the “in between” the artist and buyers is an interesting look.
The teams interact with artists to set relationships to represent their works in a variety of environments. So far there have been auctions, pitching to homeowners for bulk purchases, and galleries. Many of the teams are learning and stumbling, but the show is entertaining.
